奥本大学（Auburn University，缩写AU）成立于1856年，位于美国阿拉巴马州的奥本市，是一所公立研究型大学，学生人数约21000人，教师人数1200人，是阿拉巴马州最大的学校之一，也是阿拉巴马州最早开设四年制大学课程的学校。奥本大学的体育队好用“奥本之虎（Auburn Tigers）”来命名自己。

学校历史

奥本大学由南卫理公会教宗创立，是一所私立教会学校，但现在已于教会没有任何关系。学校经历了多次改名：校名初为“东阿拉巴马男子学院（East Alabama Male College）”，1872年依据莫里尔法案，接受了联邦赠地，更名为“阿拉巴马农工大学（Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama）”，主要专注于文科与农学（Arts & Agriculture）；1899年，受时任校长布龙博士农工文理并重的思想影响，学校更名为“阿拉巴马理工学校（Alabama Polytechnic Institute ）”；随着学校课程及专业门类的增多，上世纪60年代，学校更名为现今的“奥本大学”，以适应学校已经成为一所综合性大学的现实。

校园环境

奥本大学校园占地面积1843英亩（约7.45平方公里），学校内建筑呈网格线分布，院系分布十分明显——校园北部是大部分工程学院的楼房所在地、法学院、学校古老的行政管理大楼也在这里；校园中部是文理学院（美术系除外）、教育学院的所在地；校园南部则是理学院大本营，美术系也位于这里。
