马学（Equestrian Studies）英文也称“Equine Science”，属于农学的一种，是因马术运动而非马匹养殖的兴起而产生的一门学科。一般大学开设的马学专业主要与马术运动直接相关，与用于农业生产的马匹养殖（如负重、骑乘等）一般反而没有关系。
马学专业主要学习马匹照料，马匹训练，马匹营养与健康学，马匹管理及相关设备的保养与维修，以及一些与马术运动及表演相关的商科知识（如骑术学校、马圈或马场的管理等），甚至还可以包括骑手培训、马及马术的历史与发展等相关内容。*(1)
注意：马学与骑术并非同一个概念。马学是学习与马匹相关知识的科学，主要是学习如何照料马匹及经营马场或马术活动等，研究对象的主体是马匹；而骑术只是一种运动项目，并非一门学科，主要由一些骑术学校开设，其训练对象的主体是人。
马学专业主要开设在本科阶段，硕士阶段一般开设的马学相关的商科管理类专业，而博士阶段（PhD）则主要开设的一些与马匹营养与健康相关的专业。马匹营养与健康在本科阶段也会开设，但深入的程度低，博士阶段的马匹营养与健康则主要是将其当作一门科学来研究，与生物学的范畴非常接近了。
选校分析
建议申请者在选校时考虑以下因素，再做决定：
（1）该校的马学专业有实习项目吗？
（2）该校校园有无马场、马圈等？
（3）该校有无你感兴趣的马学项目，如骑术、商科或者科学？
（4）该校有与马匹运动相关的运动队吗，比如马球队、马术队等？
